At COP27, the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference, the delegation from Sant'Anna School for a dialogue on the fight against climate change, transnational agreements and the energy crisis

The Sant'Anna School, after gaining accreditation in 2021 and participating in COP26 in Glasgow, has been designated an observer organization for the second year and is participating as an accredited organization in COP27, the most important international climate conference, organized by the United Nations and hosted, for its 27th edition, in Sharm el-Sheik, Egypt, from Monday, November 6th to Friday, November 18th, 2022. The event aims to advance the agreements and promises of the Paris and Glasgow Accords on actions to be taken in the fight against climate change. This year, the conference is also particularly awaited in relation to the energy crisis due to the war between Ukraine and Russia. 

The Sant'Anna School is admitted to both weeks of the conference with delegates from the Institute of Management, Dirpolis Institute (Law, Policy, Development) and TeCIP Institute (Telecommunications, Computer Engineering, and Photonics Institute).  The group admitted to participate in the first week of the conference includes doctoral students and researchers: Alessio Novi, Tiziana Iannuzzi, Alice Martiny, Margherita Tranchina, Patrizia Gragnanie Manav Khanna from the SuM group (Institute of Management) along with Alice Petrucciani and Antonella Zaccara (TeCIP). Instead, the delegates of the second week are: Michele Stua, Domenico Mecca and Greta Colombi from the SuM (Institute of Management) group accompanied by Marco Frey, professor of Economics and Business Management and pro-rector for Third Mission at the Sant'Anna School, together with Chiara Tea Antoniazzi and Riccardo Luporini from the area of International Law, with Alberto Pirni, professor of Moral Philosophy at the Dirpoli Institute (Law, Politics, Development) pertinent to the area of public ethics.

Participation in COP27 represents an important opportunity to discuss issues for researchers at the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies. The conference touches on many of the School's research topics: the update of the Paris Agreement, other numerous transnational agreements, the concrete start of the system-wide energy transition, public and private financing for mitigation and adaptation, the inclusion of civil society and youth in the fight against climate change, and the role in this challenge of science, local governments and cities.

Specifically, the delegation, in addition to participation in negotiations, contributes through related research topics to discussions on environmental sustainability and industrial process efficiency, the role of sustainable finance and ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) criteria, the role of the circular economy in decarbonizing organizations industries and national energy systems, on resilience and the role of tourism, on agricultural policy and agri-food sustainability, on the importance of biodiversity protection and restoration, on the concept of climate justice, the promotion of resilient societies in Africa, and, in general, on the role of institutions in the fight against climate change. 

In addition, as part of its participation as an observer organization, the Sant'Anna School has organized two events. The first is an official side event scheduled for Monday, November 14 entitled "Climate Justice Finance: From Global Perspectives to Local Solutions" and organized together with the Fondation pour les Études et Recherches sur le Développement International (Ferdi) and the Indian Youth Climate Network (IYCN). The second side event "Private Sector and the Climate Transition: Roles, Duties and Policies," scheduled for Wednesday, November 16, features Marco Frey, Alberto Pirni and Michele Stua discussing topics such as corporate moral responsibility in correlation with climate change and the legislative aspects of the issue.
